The Lord *alone* shall be exalted in that day

The Lord *alone* shall be exalted in that day

“And it shall come to pass that the lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord of Hosts soon cometh upon all nations, yea, upon everyone; yea, upon the proud and lofty, and upon everyone who is lifted up; and he shall be brought low.” (KJV Isaiah 2:11-12)

Isaiah speaks of a coming day, a day to prepare for, when all others will be put down and the Lord alone will be exalted. I emphasize “alone” because I believe that is key in this prophecy, and missing from much of what goes on today. This prophecy talks about other things which involve the Gentiles but the Gentiles are not puffed up for their role. The whole point is that it is the Lord himself, who teaches his people. It is the Lord alone who will be exalted. he will personally “teach us of his ways”, that we may walk in His paths. Each one learning directly from God for himself, is what this day is about. It is what we should be preparing for. It is how things ought to be. Then, no body will need to tell another, that they know more. For all will know Him.

That is in stark contrast to how things are now. Today, there are many who want to take credit and be “exalted”, at least a little for what they believe is their own important role in bringing about the Lord’s work. There is envy for those in positions to do great things and desire to follow and be like them. All of this is in contrast to the day when it is the Lord alone who will be exalted. No man is to be envied. No man is to be exalted above another. It does not matter whatever their standing in society or office in an organization. What is coming, is a day when nobody can claim to have special access to the Lord that others don’t or can’t have. Their low status in society or position within an organization is irrelevant. In that day, the day we should all be striving to prepare for by our living today, all will know Him from the least to the greatest. You don’t get there by doing the opposite! You are not preparing to abide that coming day by enforcing the opposite of what the Lord wants and is going to bring about. You don’t get there by exalting one man above any other. It is by exalting the Lord alone!

If one man knows the Lord, let him help others, as many as desire, to know him also. Let no man be exalted or ranked above another but strive to fulfill the will of the Lord when He says, “you shall not esteem one flesh above another”. Exalting a man or an organization of men, above another is not fulfilling the word of the Lord. If someone is great, let them sink down below another that is not and lift them up to be his equal, that all may know the Lord, from the least to the greatest. Anyone who has truly come into contact with the Lord, knows, as Moses said, that “man is nothing”. That doesn’t mean that man is worthless or isn’t loved by God. It does mean that the greatness of God is so tremendous that it is absolute foolishness to compare any man to God. It is the Lord alone who shall be exalted in that day. The Lord alone can be exalted for you today, as it was for Moses when he came to truly realize the greatness of our God. No man, or organization of men is to be compared to the Lord at all.

At the very best, man may be like an instrument, a tool that is not acting by itself, but is being acted upon by God to accomplish what God wants to be done. So then, can a tool claim its own greatness because what the master has built? Is the tool to boast of itself for what the Lord has done? The tool is nothing without the master wielding it in his own way. The tool can do nothing of itself. The only thing that makes the tool useful at all is what the master can do with it. Should the tool then take glory unto itself for what the master does? Should the tool exalt itself if it plays some small role in what the Lord accomplishes?

It is the Lord who will bring again Zion and establish His house and teach us to walk in His ways. It is the Lord alone who shall be exalted in that day. Then why not now?
